The Real Deal

by pennyprints

I heard these guys this morning for the first time on local Austin public radio. It's SXSW here right now. Low Anthem had left Dallas yesterday in their van, which broke down on the way. I was kind of feeling sorry for these guys until they started playing. They are the real deal: well crafted, thoughtful songs, authentic not formulaic, excellent musicianship. Stumbled across this band today listening to NPR. This CD is so addictive, and I anticipate it taking a space on my playlist for a long while. Highly reccomended!

Low Anthem also became a favorite band of mine after only an hour of them playing live, which is a first for me. Usually I listen to albums for weeks before I really love the band. The Low Anthem is just a fantastic group of musicians and songwriters. They play gorgeous music with well written lyrics, and they know how to put on an amiable and fun show. BUY THE ALBUM.
A favorite is their cover of "Keep on the Sunny Side"....folk fans will love it. It has so much of their own soul in it, though, that it took me a few bars to recognize!
