Great Songs and Sounds

by The Hitmaker

This record has both great songwriting and cool production. My favorites are "When You Come Around Marie," "Halflight," "(I Don't Want You To) Stay," and "So Long, So Long." Thoughtful grooves and interesting textures reward repeated listenings.

David Singer’s new LP, East of the Fault Line, is a major step forward. It is both tender and literate, evoking the best work of Elliott Smith, Ray Davies and Tom Waits while maintaining a sound and a sensibility all its own. The songs on East of the Fault Line are widely varied stylistically, from the White Album hum of “Command Overhead” to the melancholy jazz of “So Long, So Long”, on through the reverb-drenched crunch of the title track. But make no mistake, these songs are part of a whole – a thoughtful, sincere record about memory and regret.
