This was recommended to me by a friend and as soon as I sampled "Early Chill" I bought the whole thing. The mix of music and vocals is sublime. Sample the music and you'll be hooked too.

Cabaret Music at its best!

by Aucassin

Anyone who has watched a myriad black and white film, films filled with luscious city scenes and cityscapes or who has sat back imbibing the interactions of patrons of cozy New York clubs soon revisits these sense experiences at the first bars of Huxley's tunes. First listens are surprising because you are not ready for the rawness in the lead's voice. However, juxtaposed with the complicated rhythms and genius composition, it becomes clear that order and chaos cohabit the soundscape. The feeling of pleasant unpleasantness is best represented in "Pop Song" where the singer laments that his music has achieved a modicum of recognition but his persona has not.
In many of the songs, the melodies are upbeat and popping but a closer listen to the lyrics exposes the irony in the music. This is an album that you won't hear in a dance club. If you enjoy the likes of Tom Waits, Piaf, and I would even venture into Dresden Dolls territory, Huxley will delight. Not only do the songs grow on you, the sense of being part of an urban shuffle moment will follow. It is as Huxley says, "Time to Move on."
