Watch out for Flight of the Looking Glass
by RogofulmI loved Synergy and Larry Fast back in the day, and the music still holds up today. But I searched it up specifically for Flight of the Looking Glass to recreate an old tape mix. While listening, I wondered why it sounded strange and didn't seem to have have the power that I remembered. Then I heard applause at the end. It was a LIVE version of the song - very disappointing!!! I found the original version elsewhere, but not for download, and in the 30-second preview heard the oomph that I recalled in the song. The other 5 songs I downloaded from this compilation album appear to be the original versions, although those that would have segued into other songs on the LP cut off abruptly instead of fading. Why in the world would they do that?!!! So even though there's a lot of good music here, I'd suggest waiting until the original albums are available for download.
Would Like ALL the Older Stuff Remastered
by pmuhtykceeeSince 2/5 of this album is METROPOLITAN SUITE, I feel hard pressed to want it. MS has some decent music (for being more digital than analog), mind you, but after hearing the non-MS songs on this release, I'd far prefer hearing ALL the older Synergy re-mastered and buying the albums a THIRD time. Larry Fast and W. Carlos have been my pinnacle of analog synthesizer compositions and I hate to see this genre fade away. These artists have done far more orchestral compositions on equipment w/o the help of modern sequencers than anything electronic I've heard in over 20 years. Electronic music now seems to be relegated to easy listening 'new age' music or ultra-repetative house/trance/techno music with very little of the feeling of older electronic music. Larry Fast was the most amazingly orchestrated of all electronic music composers and it's sad to see such an art dissipate.
Larry is the man!
by UpNorthConsidered the godfather of electronic music by many, Larry Fast makes music that, to me, is timeless. I have gone back through all his works, and they still amaze me at how far ahead of the curve he was. He and Wendy Carlos lit a fire under the world of electronic music long before anyone else. From his solo works, to his work with others (Peter Gabriel), Larry has blazed a path that deserves a listen.
