Why God Why!?!?!?!?

So, to this day I still can't explain why Floater and their offspring (Drumattica, Riverboat, etc.) haven't garnered the artistic and musical attention they deserve. Anyone who has heard of them (and I've made a lot of fans myself) instantly recognize raw, unadulterated power in music coming from a tiny stage or stereo. I defy anyone to listen to this or any Floater album and not fall in love with the beauty and genius of Rob's voice and lyrics accompanied by pure harmony from his group of players...each with their own part to play in the mesh of musical enlightenment. What are you waiting for......become experienced.

Only left me wanting more

Just when I was in the most depraved stages of Floater withdrawal, I found this. It was like finding a new Floater album and a new Dahlia album all in one... but with a twist. It did, indeed, leave a lot to be desired - the next album for instance. Like a tool concert, this album violently takes you into some ontological plain with 'Complex' and then, with the ensuing songs, suspends you and reminds you to look around; to think and feel. It then gently drops you back off with 'Temptation' and 'Remedy'. Remedy... wow. West coast tribal tasty goodness at its best. I can't wait for more.

Drumattica's 2003 release leaves a lot to be desired. When I purchased this album I thought I was going to get an amazing range of electronica, because the single I heard, "Lucid", was... amazing. The single is dark, but not overwhelmingly so, somewhat reminiscent of Shakespear's Sister with ample drum licks and a tempting pulse of a background beat.
What I ended up getting was an entire album of Emo electronica. I will state here for the record that I am not a big Emo fan. A few singles of Depeche Mode and Everlasting are enough for me. Drumattica appears to have been going for a single mood theme on their debut album, and they succeeded. The entire album loses itself in the shadows, twisting with desperation, despair, and brilliant doubt. I'd recommend it to Emo fans to give their collections a little more representation in the synth-punk category. Just don't go into this thinking it's solely an electronica album.
