An absolutely wonderful and beautiful album
by curly sensationThis cd brings about a whole new exploration of beauty to the mind. It has you wrapped in emotion. The music is very complex and beautiful, leaving you gasping for more. At least, if not buying the whole album, make sure to buy John Anderson, My Jo. It is one of the best, I feel. Also, May Morning Dew is very nice. One thing I do not get about the album is the song Londonerry Air. It sounds much like Danny Boy to me. Though this cd can be a bit melancholy at times, it is so beautiful! You will absolutely not regret it!
Celtic Cello - excellence despite tune label mixup
by MaireRuaThis is a gorgeous album, spoiled only by iTune's mixing up and mislabeling many of the tunes showcased herein. If you can get over that error, by all means buy the album in its entirety and sort it out for yourself. You will not regret it for a minute, because Marston Smith has given the listener a rare treat. The warmth of the cello sound, combined with Smith's virtuosity and his elegant setting of these traditional tunes makes every one of these cuts come alive. They shine, they glow, they dissolve like honey. This album is truly a joy to listen to again and again. Smith makes a fine case for the cello as an exquisite instrument for defining the beautiful slow airs and haunting melodies of the best of Celtic music. The cello rules in Smith's hands, so ignore the mislabeling, give yourself a wonderful present, and buy this collection. Your ears will thank you.
