A Definite Must-Own!
by DaggerdWhile Kristy Hanson lovingly refers to her brand of music as "Chick Rock", one listen to her second album "She's Been Waiting" proves Hanson draws heartily from many genres, and with astonishing success. While Hanson's guitar guides all six tracks, a piano, strings, drums, and back-up vocals weave effortlessly throughout. In her lyrics, Hanson tackles many aspects of a complicated relationship. The strongest track, "Half the Moon", features Hanson singing about the frustration ofunrequited love (in the first chorus, she sings "You'd think I'd be used to the hours alone", but as the songs grows more passionate and heartfelt, it turns into "I don't wanna get used to the hours alone"). "Alone on the Playground", lushly orchestrated with strings, a flute, and an oboe, is a haunting and sweeping ode to the importance of patience in a relationship; and the album's clsoing track, "Take It Back", is an apology with hope coursing through its up-tempo veins. The tracks on "She's Been Waiting" are complex but never muddy, individual but consistently pleasing. While Hanson tinkers with and combines pop, rock, folk, and jazz elements, one thing remains resoundingly crystal-clear: She is a captivating singer and a remarkable songwriter. And while this particular album may seem short, it represents the start of something wonderful-a strong and original voice that will surely lead to an impressive career. BUY THIS ALBUM, because Kristy Hanson is here to stay.
