Album Review
Country singer and songwriter — and actor — Ed Bruce was a teenager when he started his musical career recording at the now-legendary Sun Records. He didn't have any success with his rockabilly tunes and eventually moved on. Years later he found an excellent job singing advertising jingles, then finally landed a contact with RCA. Bruce is probably best known by country fans for a catchy little song he penned and recorded in the '70s called "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys." Though it made it onto the Top 20 charts for Bruce, two years later it became a huge hit when it was recorded as a duet by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. A gifted songwriter who has written numbers for greats like Tanya Tucker and Tex Ritter, Bruce wrote or co-wrote most of the songs on this 2002 recording, This Old Hat. He lets his talents shine on songs like "You're the Best Break This Old Heart Ever Had," "My First Taste of Texas," "Did He Say It Better Than Me?," and "My Baby Don't Need No Polish to Shine."

what a shame!
by GOOD MUSIC RULESAll you have to do is sample a listen to MY FIRST TASTE OF TEXAS to know this is horrible remakes with a terrible band. WHY DO PEOPLE ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN SO OFTEN? So many older artists with the GREATEST VOICES LIKE ED'S fall victim to the original record company owning the original masters. So they recut. HEY! WHY NOT GET THE SAME GUYS THAT PLAYED ON THE ORIGINAL HITS. Sonny Garrish MADE these original records with his steel and band leadership! WHAT A SHAME! Shame on you, Ed. You're WAY TOO GREAT OF A WRITER AND A SINGER TO HAVE MADE SUCH JUNK.
Old Style Country Music but Genuine
by RusRyeI really like Ed Bruce. My guess is most people who listen to country music now have never even heard of him. I used to listen to him on my Dad's vinal records growing up. He's got a voice that isn't quite like anyone else. A little gruff but yet smooth and soothing. He reminds me a lot of Don Williams. "You're the Best Break..." is my favorite song he has. Buy it and have a listen.
