Mellow, thought-provoking and musically unique
by 77's fanUpdate Harry Chapin to this decade, and add some James Taylor, and you will have an idea of Doc's style. He shows creativity in thought and tune, and he brings the words to life in a great blended sound. I have found both CDs to be consistently excellent, something that even more famous artists fail to achieve, and I am hoping there is more to come from this guitar-playing super lawyer. Nice job, Doc.
A Remarkable CD
by Mark Wright (London)This is one of the finest cds that I have heard for quite sometime. Doc's voice is reminiscent of Paul Simon.
Very heartfelt and pure, sung over an acoustic guitar.
It is not often that a track brings tears to my eyes but the second song most certainly did, entitled Wherever You Are.
I highly recommend this cd.
Literate Acoustic and Confessions of the Heart
by InTheShapeOfChordsIt is rarely the case these days that an album can hold you track after track -- each song interesting, different, with simple pretty coloring and engaging lyrics. Choices and Chances is that kind of album -- Doc Schneider's debut effort mostly on the wings of just his voice and guitar. Confessional, autobiographical (These Were My Friends tells the tale of a teenager who fell in love with music for good, and Choices and Chances, a song Camus and the existentialists might have joined in on the chorus) -- and in every one Schneider goes looking for the kind of melodies that break your heart or make you sigh, and matches it with lyrical flights of words and emotions. You can hear all his influences -- he is not afraid to tip his hat noticeably to his musical heroes. The Legal Guitarist is an amusing and catchy number about the bald-headed lawyer who penned these songs. In Her Hands confesses a little lusting in the heart in a massage session. Hint of Heaven is a hommage to the inimitable James Taylor. If You Must Leave Me Now is a sad break up in sad metaphors. And finally, a songwriter who writes an unabashed love song to his wife in The Lucky One. In literature, they call novels that span a lifetime of experience a bilgundsroman -- well, in the CD player, that is just what this album is -- Choices and Chances walks you through a lifetime in 20 songs. Give it a shot. You will not be dissapointed.
