Great Album, great Hick-Hop

by GermanyEngland

This is truly one of my favorite albums of all time. "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow" is a fun take on an old timey tune made popular by "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou" and serves as a nice intro to the rest of the album's smart, prescient lyrics. No, this album does not belong in "Country" but they are about our Country. These lyrics have something to say, a flip sided story to tell. They won't tell you about a rusty truck and how he drinks too much and how his girl left him but he still loves an idealized God's U S of A. These are sad stories from the city, which is no less part of our country, but where the ideals have been broken and unmasked.

I saw Man of Constant Sorrow and thought it might purhaps be a neat remix of some fun music. Unfortunatly its really just a bunch of poorly made propaganda music that puts little focus on entertaining with creative music mixing and more focus on letting their political views be known.

Great Alternative Music, but definitely not country

This is great music, but it definitely does not belong in the country area. I guess someone saw "Man of Constant Sorrow" and made some bad assumptions. I'm tempted to say that this is the kind of stuff Harry Chapin would have been doing if he'd been born in 1981, instead of dieing that year. The music is compelling and the social message has every bit of the angst and humor that Chapin or Croce would have loved. While I don't agree with much of the anti-capitalism, anti-freemarket lyrics, to tell you the truth this album is probably the perfect thing to listen to after you've been laid off.
