Where is the Harana?
by RhythmPulseMelodyThis album suffers from a symptom common to musicians who were classically trained, but not truly immersed in the regional musical culture; no matter what this artists bio states.
These Harana come off very dry, rigid and impersonal. Harana is about wooing a woman at her window, but this album strips it of all romantic emotion and transforms it into lounge music. The playing is clean with a perfect tone, but that is a sought after emphasis for classical guitar, whereas harana is concerned with the pursuit of the heart.
A Philippine Triumph!
by BaguioBabeAs a Filipino living overseas, I was pleasantly overjoyed when I discovered iTunes has a Filipino artist in their inventory. After sampling each song, I bought the whole album and I recommend you do the same thing if, a) you love classical guitar and, b) if you are a Filipino who wants to have a little of home in your heart. Yes, each song is purely delivered to convey the romance and meaning of love with one instrument separating you from the artist's heart. Nowadays songs have electronic-simulated sounds, difficult voice renderings or unrecognizable percussion. It is so refreshing to listen to a single instrument, superbly played in this cd and in "Tipanan" and "Kasilag Quartet". MABUHAY ANG PILIPINO!
