Give me a break with these sentimental/critical reviews

by kudzu kid

I see too many people being too sentimental. Hey Foghat was a great band, but Foghat is still a great band. I just saw them in an outdoor concert last night... stood about 16ft from the loudspeakers. Haven't seen a concert with that much energy since Stevie Ray Vaughn was introduced by his big brother Jimmy Ray of the Fabulous Thunderbirds early in his career. Roger Earl can still play the hell out of the drums. It was great to see some REAL rock and roll veterans show the kids how it is was/is done. Made my seventeen year old daughter go with me. I wanted her to see how we rocked when I was her age. She was blown away! These cats improve on the legacy versions and the songs are this album go right along in the Foghat traditions. If you want to hear some truly great musicianship you gotta love this music.

Foghat is indubitably the Band of the early 70's

Half of you idiots wouldn't recognize a good band or music if it bit you on the a** Foghat was a mesh of other bands forming together to play a style of garage band blues rock. They were the Metallica of their age. This collection of songs shows a side of Foghat many people only got to see live. To expect Foghat to play every song like Fool or Slow Ride would be like expecting BB King play two notes to every song. To understand the times in which Foghat were rocking the states you would have to understand that Foghat was all about having fun and more so laying down blues like riffs with rock beat reminiscent of the soul music of their youth. If all you think Foghat is made of is Slow Ride or Fool then you truly missed your mark on this band. This band was all about being into the music and telling the stories of the band and its members. They shared everything in song If I could give it 7 stars I would.

Foghat fans of 1972-1983 should not buy this album

If you are a foghat fan do not buy this album. Charlie Huhn's voice is weak and hoarse... nothing like Dave Peverret's voice. If you do buy this album you will not find the great sounding boogie rock foghat had during the 70's. Nor will you find the sound of the new wave music they produced from 1980-1981.
Instead you will find a scratchy voice singing something that sounds like dull, blusey metal.

Foghat specialized in a simple, hard-rocking blues-rock, releasing a series of best-selling albums in the mid-'70s. While the group never deviated from their basic boogie, they retained a large audience until 1978, selling out concerts across America and earning several gold or...
