Album Review
Laura Dreyer, who played six years in the Diva big band and recorded with Five Play, leads a funky Brazilian group on this CD called Mysterious Encounter. A fluent alto and soprano saxophonist and flutist, Dreyer also contributed eight of the ten selections to this CD, her debut as a leader. She is joined by pianist-keyboardist Dario Eskenazi, either Romero Lubambo or Mark Lambert on guitar, bassist Kip Reed, drummer Vanderlai Pereira, and sometimes percussionist Todd Isler and background singer Susan Davis Pereira. Valve trombonist Mike Fahn is a major asset on "O Sol de Um Dia Novo," though unfortunately that is his only appearance on the record. The chances are good that none of the originals are going to catch on as standards in the future, butDreyer proves to be a talented musician and this is an important first step as a leader for her.

by specimen38Laura Dreyer brings it. Brings what? A fat sound! I hear the makings of greatness in this music. Bewitching, sultry and fresh... Not sappy like Kenny G and no disrepect to him. It's just that originality is refereshing. Her vibe is imaginative and not so predictable. The lead sax performances are bright, and brilliant -- perfectly mixed. I like to listen to how the compositions are layered. Her leads don't offend the other instruments. I wish it hadn't taken me so long to discover this artist.

by peaceluvrokDefinitley a talented artist with many years as a musician behind her. The album is overall great and I hope there will be many more to come. I know she is already writing new songs all the time and a new album will just come in time. She is a dedicated music teacher with much skill. Overall its really good. The solos are great too so if your're one of the people who only likes jazz for some jamming, this is the album for you.
