Texas' best kept secret...

by AppleDigger

Jazz is jazz, but Drop Trio is and has been the most dynamic and unique brand of jazz coming from Texas in many many years. I found Drop Trio by accident, but have since purchased all their records. They may all be different, but Leap is by far the most ambitious, and best.

Best for Chillin'

by Snuggoo

If you're looking for chill instrumentals for staying at home, this is better than the more in-your-face styles of Soulive, MMW, or the Bad Plus. No disrespect to those other fine bands, but this is amazing laid back ensemble groovalishousness.

Doesn't sound improvised to me!

by Nate Geo. W

It's amazing to me that this is a studio improv record. Sure, there is plenty of exploration and jamming, but the music is so tight and the phrasing is so cohesive; it seems orchestrated at times. In fact, it seems that way most of the time. But it's still free and open enough that you can tell it's jammed. Genius musical communication on this record. I read in an interview that this record came from a two and a half hour in-studio improv session. Which makes think "There has to be more." I say they should release the second half some day, as I am sure it is just as brilliant.

Without a doubt, Drop Trio is the premier improv/jazz trio in Texas, and I've heard a lot! Don't turn your nose up to this one just because it's all improvised. This is Drop Trio doing what they do best: be brilliant.
