Rock, Pop, Country...a little of everything
by ThecriacI have the pleasue of knowing one of the members of the Croup. His taste in music is so wide and varied it's no surprise how diverse the music is in this album. With that said, somehow, even with two very different leading voices, The Croup's debut album maintains a unifying theme throughout. The lyrics are a dark and gritty celebrations of places ("Coney Island") and things ("Just Like a Song") that are often taken for granted or not seen as hip. The lyrics move from poetic to screaming (all for a creative purposes of course). The music can be a pop song, a country riff, or a dark, alternative smash up. It's all there and it's all very well done. These are songs to be enjoyed by those who keep a varied taste in music...but just preview the songs...that'll give you enough of a taste. I recommend the whole album. It makes for a very pleasurable 30 minute car trip.
