Album Review

The Hillbilly Hellcats play a heavy rockabilly that is analogous to Reverend Horton Heat. Indeed, each of their CDs (their first was Rev It Up with Taz) were recorded with ex-drummer of that group, Taz Bentley. "Road Rage" is a good example of this heavy rockabilly, while "Everybody Was Drinkin' Martinis But Me" shows another side of the group, one that is humorous, strident and classically hillbilly rock. White trash and whiskey themes are the staples to their short but enjoyable compositions. Our Brand is original music that is consistently upbeat, true to rockabilly sound ideals and naturally enjoyable.

GOOD S**T KICKING ROAD MUSIC

by Don the MadDog

When I heard these songs it's like some cobwebs and dust were cleared away from the part reserved for rockabilly. Refreshing change and surprised I never heard of these guys. Just goes to show you really can't keep track of what's out there listening to your car radio and watching MTV.

Outrageously rockin’ rockabilly guitar and just down right fun lyrics

A definite stepping stone to their 2003 follow up album “Rev It Up With Taz” which I think has an overall faster, more complex, dirtier sound. “Our Brand” sets the stage for the Hellcats upright bass slappin, outrageously rockin’ rockabilly guitar, and just down right fun lyrics – all which are set to a driving beat. Fan of Stray Cats, Rev. Horton Heat, Brian Setzer, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran and the likes, will enjoy adding The Hillbilly Hellcats to their regular playlist. If Gene & Eddie we’re still rockin today with Cliff, I would like to imagine they would tip their hats to the music this band creates.
