Album Review

Those who follow R&B music closely will recall the name Chris Jasper during his days as an intricate member of both the Isley Brothers and Isley/Jasper/Isley. The album Faithful and True is his second all-gospel album since embarking on a solo career in 1988, following the critically acclaimed 1992 release Praise the Eternal. The 13 songs of inspiration making up this project makes as their focal point Jasper's rich, silky-smooth tenor. The one song that departs from this norm is the funk-flavored "Doing My Thing (For the Lord)." On this track, Jasper takes a page out of the Roger Troutman school of funk, with the use of a driving bassline and voice box.
