Wonderful and timeless music

I've had this cd for many years, and I still listen to it all the time. Calaveras has wonderful musicianship with beautiful lyrics, and I enjoy every drop of this cd. This is a smart addition to anyone's collection.

This is a great song! Written and best performed by this group (Though many others have covered it.) Powerful and engaging with a nice connection between their unique voices and instramentals. This group uses song and music to tell richly engaging stories that are at times playful and at other times speak to our common humanity. Always brings a tear to my eye.

The song "Ready To Fly" is absolutely lovely

I had the good fortune to meet Greg and Calaveras at the Strawberry Music Festival just outside of Yosemite National Park in 1998 or so, right after they recorded and released "Ready To Fly." Calaveras wasn't officially performing at the festival, but they were walking around with their instruments and giving impromptu performances around the grounds. I happened to be walking from the lake one day as they sang "Ready To Fly" and the song gave me goose bumps. I saw them perform the song again live the next morning at the breakfast cafe, and bought the CD. The song is a perfect folk/pop ballad. The story line is lovely, the harmonies are amazing, and the simple instrumentation is perfect. If I recall correctly, the back story to the song is that it was inspired by some elderly residents of a nursing home. Just tonight (late July) in Norfolk, VA, I was amazed to hear a local band, "Big Wide Grin" covering "Ready To Fly." I hadn't heard the song for 10 years, but once again, it gave me chills. The last time I checked iTunes, Calaveras's music wasn't online yet, so I am thrilled that I can finally get my hands on the track.
