Wide variety of talent on this first album
by my nickname for meI keep finding myself foregoing the iPod playlists I spent hours working on in favor of just loading up Letters in Boxes and playing it through. Why? Because the album is a not just twelve tracks of the same beats remixed to fill an hour. Design for Life has filled the tempting array of alternative beats and classic rock ballads with attitude and passionate lyrics. Full of feeling, this listener enjoys lead singer Erik Christ’s “had it up to here” attitude in Blood From a Stone, melodic comfort in Every Day, and surprise in the acoustic un-named bonus track 12. Gary Wertman’s contributions are likewise impressive with fantastic imagery in Dreaming of Time and the upbeat Been the Wiser that makes this listener want to take a walk in the sunshine. Of course, the title track, creatively illustrated on the cover, is a tribute to everyone’s past. The album does leave the listener with one overwhelming question by the end that – for now – still goes unanswered. What are the Tour dates?
