Before you buy
by wndxsee that genre up there? It says "Spoken Word" - this is not a cd of music but words. These are spoken word poems, the two bad reviews don't seem to understand that.
Alix is an exceptionally talented poet. Her poems have the great ability to be serious and shocking - while reamining fun at the same time. I'm partial to "gender game" and if you're looking for a poem to get a taste for what it is she does it'd be a good one to check out. Not for people who have a problem with the use of words for the female anatomy. She doesn't hold back.
First Time Feeling
by Ford42The first time I heard "I Believe," I was standing in my university's quad facilitating a protest for the Day of Silence. I'd come out to my parents a week earlier. I'd been out to my friends for just shy of a year. When it came on the loudspeaker, I was running in circles with a rainbow flag slung around me like a cape. Needless to say, I'm queer. Still, some of the things coming out of Alix's mouth stunned me. I felt as if I'd been hit in the gut. It took a few minutes to recover.
But this CD has changed me, and it has changed the way I look at the world. Buy it. Listen to it, listen to it ALONE, and listen to it REPEATEDLY. I'd recommend at least three or four listen-throughs before deciding Alix is not your style. I'd also recommend hiding it from curious family members or conservative friends. But do buy it. Thank me later. ;)
