Modern Latin Rock
by Mark RentonThis album captures a new movement in Latin music to really stretch the boundaries. What is interesting about this album is that some of the bands sing in a way that you almost can’t tell the songs are in Spanish. The vocal melodies are very reminiscent of American indie rock. “This Time” is a fabulous homage to electro-rap and “Nine” is a quaint pop song that will be stuck in your head for days. The bonus track is by far my favorite. Some songs are kind of bland but as a collection of bands I think this is a fabulous collection. Besides you just can’t go wrong with storied surf-rock.
