If Jonathan Richman Were a Baptist. . .

. . .and played piano and liked Elvis a little bit more, he'd be Meade Skelton. Mr. Skelton's songs are often personal: sometimes poking fun at himself, sometimes reminiscing about painful memories. The music tends toward a country rock style from the late 60s and early 70s (Think Elvis' arrangements circa "Burning Love") although "Rusty Barbed Wire Dream" sounds straight out of the Fats Domino songbook. The lyrics may be a bit awkward at times, but you’ll find their innocent charm and the catchy melodies winning you over.

Meade Skelton has trolled internet forums for years under various aliases praising his work as if it were coming from numerous people. Has posted racist and inflammatory remarks when talking about his "Southern Heritage."
He also admits to stalking women, and has a strange obsession with Nicole Kidman. Just check his blog, don't take my word for it.

Great American Music

by Jerry Jodice

I host a weekly independent music podcast called The Great American Music Hour (available on iTunes) and have frequently played the music of Meade Skelton, who hails from my home town of Richmond, Virginia. Meade is a fabulous piano player, and his voice definitely has that Jerry Lee vibe to it. But he's got a sound all his own as well, and is definitely worth taking a listen to. My favorite song on this album is "They Can't Keep Me Down," with the lyric "I'm gonna write my name all over this stinking town," but, really, all the songs are good, so get the whole album. You won't be disappointed.
