Album Review

A 22-song compilation, this is a wonderfully comprehensive overview of this wonderful band. Good liner notes by former Trouser Press head honcho Ira Robbins.

The Superlative Shoes Collection!

by scottn59c

This is a superb collection of Shoes' indelibly catchy power pop. Once they get to you (and it doesn't take long) it is frankly impossible not to sing along with Jeff Murphy's ingeniously crafted vocal melodies and harmonies. These are all upbeat and inspired tunes etched out in the shape of post-Rubber Soul pop/rock with all the best potentialities set up therein, like electronic influences, terriific use of vocal harmonies and rhythmic syncopation with a groove-based sensibility. These boys are equally at home writing clever songs about miscommunication in relationships ("Double Talk," "Pieces of Glass" or "Too Late" ) as they are writing rocking sexy numbers like "She Satisfies" or "Will You Spin For Me". "Summer Rain" and "Curiosity" are must-hears from this comp. If you are a lover of melodic pop that sticks to the ribs, this is for you.

An alternative station out of Dallas played The Shoes in late '70s or early '80s. I loved them and bought their albums although they never made it commercially big in my area. I have looked for them on iTunes for years. They are a fun band, an easy way to get away. Not the Beatles but very enjoyable. These are four guys I always wanted to meet.

Great Lost Band of the 80's

Coming from the town of Zion, IL, these guys never git the support from Elektra Records that they deserved. This band defined power pop in Chicago. This band is worth your time and money.

It may not have the hip thing to do at the time but Shoes carried on the pure pop traditions of the Beatles and the Raspberries during the late '70s and early '80s with a charming innocence and execution unmatched...
