by ethbeats{wcu}When I was a kid, I dreamed of leaving the farm and our small town in Illinois, and heading to Alaska. I dreamed of making it on my own in the rugged wilderness. Mountain Man was my favorite book and Jeremiah Johnson my favorite movie. Scott Merrick, in Songs For Alaska, captures that spirit perfectly. To me, the joy of self dependence, freedom to move about in a place where there is still some elbow room, of breathing in nature at its finest, is what this album is all about. I've never been to Alaska except through Scott Merrick's album and I go there everytime I listen.
That dream of being a mountain man are repressed inside of me, but still in there. Who knows, if I keep listening, I might chuck it all and head north.
