Album Review

The vocals are ace, both lead and harmony vocals being melodic, emotion-filled, charismatic presentations throughout the album. The instrumental accompaniment expertly compliments the vocals and as a rule add vibrant color and depth to each piece. All compositions are fresh new pieces which can hardly be compared to any other piece because, quite honestly, all the pieces qualify as hits in their own right. The tight groove from the rhythm section, Craig Benelli on drums and Mike Vesceglia on bass, kicks off the album and "Shelter Hotel" with finesse. When Steve Tannen's melodic vocals enter the mix, "Shelter Hotel" is elevated to another level. When Sam Shaber adds some harmony vocals, the listener is left in awe of the sweet melodic sound. Craig Benelli's accentuating guitar work blended meticulously with Keith Cotton's keyboard work, lending vibrant color to the song. This pop gem has the infectious quality of an Eagles monster hit from the '70s, with an original modern charisma. Tannen has a voice that one will never tire of listening to, with a melodic range that never wavers and a smoothness that has a calming effect on the listener. "Love Come Knockin'" features more of an electronic vibe, thanks to Steve French's synths and drum programming with some forceful bass presence. Though it has more of an electronic vibe, the acoustic guitar is still a powerful element and the overall groove is really quite mellow. This serves to give the listener a mild dose of variety. Steve Tannen has put together an entertaining album filled with rock tunes that lean toward other styles from folk, blues, and mild alternative influences. All the compositions have expertly written lyrics which stir emotional feelings in the listener, and most times ring with truth. Following his own formula in song structure, which incorporates time-proven theory, appears to serve Steve Tannen well, because the final product leaves a lasting impression. If not lost in the corporate shuffle, Steve Tannen will make the top of the play list on many rock-formatted stations. This is a highly recommended CD for the folk-rock and rock fan.

such a great songwriter and i'm so glad he teamed up with Deb Tallen to do the weepies! My favorite song on this album is San Francisco. Shelter Hotel is another solid track.

I love what I bought from this record. I would have bought the whole thing if I didn't run out of money! It is a must to purchase the rest of this album for me. I am a HUGE Weepies fan and since he's half of the Weepies, that's the reason I got into his solo stuff. Ugh. Really good stuff right here. I am addicted to "San Francisco" and "Shelter Hotel". HIGHLY Recommend this album.
