Miss Wanda is good... all good
by Cheese WeaselThe Blues must have played a big part of the accompaniment to Miss Wanda's life. She is a Natural born singer from the piedmont area of the Carolinas and her story unfolds in the true bluesy soul she sings. Someday I hope everyone (including myself) will have the chance to see her perform live, since that is the only way this music could hope to be any better. Add Wanda Johnson to the list of Blues greats. More than timing, phrasing, or lyrical clarity, (which is all here and as perfect as it can be) Miss Wanda is about real life and you can feel in her voice that she's been there. Of course, the way she sings it makes you ask her to take you there again. Everything here is as good as grits and gravy with a side of greens, but the best song is "Switch me over (to love)". No Blues or Soul collection would be complete without it. If you love the blues and are ready to find something new by someone who can sell it from deep down in your soul, call Miss Wanda.
