Seattle Sun Pop
by Paul KleinI bought this record back in 9th grade after seeing Sub-Motive play shows in and around the Seattle-Tacoma area. These guys rock live, and it shines through on their records. I recently dusted this disc off and can say that I'm still impressed with this band. These young guys deserve a shot at the big time, because they are incredibly talented and gifted. Aaron's guitar solos (particularly on the catchy "Emotion Sickness") are thrilling, and Josiah's intricate harmonies add layers to songs.
"Days Like These" is pure high-school sun pop. These songs ring out about the final days of being a kid, when responsibility looms nearly ahead. Each song is tight and precise, with clear indications of musical mastery. Given that this was recorded by three guys on a laptop, the sound is stellar, and the music is killer. This is one hell of a high-school record.
