Unique Sound

by MutandesCaro

Honeycreeper's "Freakqualizer" is real all killer, no filler rawk album. It's hard to label their exact genre, but they might be like a cross between the Red Hot Chili Peppers and No Doubt, but with badass sax lines. They can funk (6: The Man), they can skank (3: LandMind), strong female vocals, and theyre a group of talented musicians that, really, sounds like nothing else.

Freakqualizer rocks, skanks & funks- hard

If your ideal mix tape includes bands like Pantera, Tribe Called Quest, Bob Marley, Deee-lite, and The Clash then you won't be disappointed with Honeycreeper's "Freakqualizer". On top of a pneumatic punk-funk base, the energetic foursome pile on weighty slabs of hip hop, reggae, hard rock and 1990's American ska. Led by a commanding lead female singer/saxophonist, and backed by an amped-up, high-energy band that knows how to bring the funk, their sound latches on to your eardrums and holds on tightly throughout the album. The booming, opening bari-sax riff of "Your Voice" immediately demands your attention. The second track, "Five Degrees of Me" (which is one of my favorites on an album chock full of great songs) is like is a crazed punk/funk masterpiece. By the time you get to "The Man" you're probably thinking this band is certainly rocking your iPod and would probably be even more gratifying live. The punk, ska, hip hop, and reggae blend together for a sound that is eccentric, catchy and ultimately entertaining. Honeycreeper's debut album, is a sharply produced, impressively realized first effort that, quite loudly and literally, screams out for college and alternative radio airplay.

Honeycreeper knows how to get freaky with your earholes!

This album is not the same old stuff! What appealed to me the most was that every song sounded new and fresh because they are all unique, yet still have the "Honeycreeper" sound, which I would describe as an upbeat, punk inspired mix of all things fun. I recommend this to anyone who is into bands such as Gogol Bordello, The Clash, Fishbone, Cake, Beck, Gorillaz or any other bands of the genre bending sort.
