Album Review

Bobby Kyle (vocals, lead guitar) gets top notch assistance from Pete Kanaras (rhythm guitar), Floyd Philips (piano), Randy Lippincott (bass), and Barry Harrison (drums) on his solo debut, the rhythm section gets help from the Uptown Horns on some tracks. Eddie Kirkland supplies background vocals and guitar on "Standing In The Background" a powerful blues fireball where Kirkland cosigns every word Kyle sings. The drama continues with "After The Storm," a bulldozer with a fiery lead vocal. The Uptown Horns: Crispin Cioe (alto & baritone sax), Arno Hecht (tenor sax), Robert Funk (trombone), and Larry Etkin (trumpet) spices Buddy Ace's "Love Like Mine" with a big band blues sound. "Got What You Wanted," represents excellence: sweet, subtle, tasty with an infectious genre crossing quality. Johnny Copeland plays lead guitar on "Going Out Walking," a swing blues pumped by the Uptown Horns. Shemekia Copeland, Johnny's daughter, contributes backing vocals on "Can't Make Ends Meet"; the easy rocker also features a heart-warming guitar solo from Kyle. Look out Tyrone Davis, Kyle, pushed by the Uptown Horns, does a mind blowing version of "Turning Point." An excellent debut from a dynamic young blues singer.
