Great stuff
by NogI was happy to see this on iTunes and snatched it up. Been following these guys since I don't know when, all I know is that they packed the house on a weekly basis as the "Casual Dog Band" at Dooley's in Syracuse. Hey, when are you guys gonna re-release "Where's Bubba?"
From the band....
by ScottLeeWe recorded this record on a Korg D-16 in the basement of the original Skunk City Studio on Charmouth St. in Syracuse. Prone to flooding and with no acoustical properties of any value, we made a record that is really, in retrospect, a transitional piece of work. Starting out with the idea that we just wanted to work some new originals into the sets and as an excuse to rehearse them, we ended up making a very complex record full of acoustic instruments and harmonies. Some of these songs may have been written by Joe in the car as he drove up from Philly where he lived it seems to me. Lots of cars and trucks and trains and boat imagery from both myself and Joe now that I look back on it. The standouts for me are "Wanda Lou", "A Good Life", "Pride of My Double Wide", "Portland Maine" and "Lorraine". I really wanted to leave off "Turn it Around", since it did not come out as well as I hoped, but was talked out of it and, in retrospect, I am glad. I get a lot of comments about that song from people who have the cd. Overdubs were done in the living room and the kitchen. We mastered on an Apple G4 using Nuendo I think. We had never done anything like this, making our own record from start to finish. We recorded always in studios for other releases by the Casual Dogs, The Z-Bones, and Mo' Hen, but this was different. We are just getting ready to finish our next record, which is a whole different beast to be called "Lucky". Or maybe "Back In The House"....We hope you enjoy it, we made it from scratch with our own little hands and I think it still stands as a big achievement.
