Teargirl

Jane's voice is one of a kind

Solid
by ZophielSan Diego, California local artist Jane Lui makes good on her first solo writing project. She shows great stylistic and vocal range going from the bouncy and almost bump-and-grind "Freddie Goodtime" to the beautiful breathy Phaedon (my favorite track on this album). Some might call this offering 'overly emotional.' Indeed, she uses words to that effect on her own website. I wouldn't disagree with her, though the tendency towards histrionic yet nonsensical lyrics doesn't detract too much from the overall feel of the disk. The composition and writing on this album is very evocative of Tori Amos' Little Earthquakes.
