This first self-credited album promises a bright - and dark - future.

by zerobandwidth

Chris Robley has always produced music that is complicated, thoughtful, layered - the sort of music that could be playing in the background while you work but still consume your complete attention if you're willing to give it. "This Is The" is an exploration of those myriad styles of which Robley and his band are capable. There is no obvious unifying thread between the songs in this collection, so it might not feel like an "album" in the older sense, but each track can stand as its own significant achievement. "All Roads" and "Wondrous Withering of Days" are perhaps the most accessible songs here, while others might be too dark ("Little Miss Masochist") or too experimental ("Swimming Lessons" and "Mantra...") for the average listener. Anyone tired of the same-old-same-old will find an impressive departure from it in this and later albums.

Chris Robley is talented and deep, which is a rarity in today's music scene. His music radiates into the consciousness and provides the listener with an enjoyable music ride parted with an intense mind blow. He deals with interesting and real topics in his music and brings truth to the human experience with his normal standard of musical excellance. I highly recommend this album and look forward to seeing Chris excel. If you don't believe me, spend the money on this album and see what happens...
