What Musical Theatre Should Be

by justinsfischer

I had the opportunity to see the most recent production of 'The Blue Flower' in NYC in February; I was ecstatic when I saw this recording was available. The orchestrations are brilliant, and the lyric writing is captivating and the music is as flawless as one could hope. This score belongs in that small cache of musical theatre scores that exist with such strength on its own, though in the show it fits perfectly. The moniker of 'Hank Williams meets Kurt Weill' is totally appropriate, creating its own sonic world that in no way detracts from the score. 'Eiffel Tower', especially, has the ability to reduce me to a mouldering heap every time I hear it. Do yourself a favor and buy this album!
