Spirited Artist, Spirited Songs
by RocketeereLisa Kelly's first-out CD is repleat with spirited songs that reflect her life in the La Honda hills of California, among her laid back bevy of friends and fellow musicians who hang out at what used to be Ken Keasy's old haunts. And her songs both retain the spirit of those times, while breathing new energy into it all. While certaily not the high-end strata that a few of my fellow reviewers were apparently expecting from another artist named Lisa Kelly (who's apparently on a major label - tho, hey, I've never heard of her), this Lisa Kelly's CD is otherwise an exemplary record of compelling songs. And yes, many of them are of the more folk-rock genre (and not 'just folk' as some have negatively presumed), there are still others, like Seasons, and most-especially Kathy's House, that are a haunting exploration into the heart's longing, in the former case, and an upbeat, hirky quirky 'takes a left-turn at a moment's notice' type tune in the latter case, completely reminiscent of either Patti Smith or Chrisie Hynde (sp? - sorry) of The Pretenders.
Good for you, Lisa! Nicely done collection of (lucky 13) songs, and a great, if-not kinda sexy, CD cover (grin)! 'Enjoying this one, and looking forward to your next one!
