Album Review

Rob Kudyba has teamed up with some outstanding musicians for this 1997 release. Bryn Mutch sits in on drums while David Chirico puts down the bass groove. "I Want You Here with Me" features some heavy power chords, an excellent lead guitar solo, and some heavy vocals with the aid of Daniel James, frontman for Daniel James & the Breed. This song really captures the essence of alternative rock. "Mr. Moneyman" rocks with a very unique, jazzed-up sound along with a funky beat, driven by innovative guitar licks and great bass riffs. The harmony in the vocals have a Beatlesque quality. "Lay Down" reveals an angrier and heavier side of the Bee Zoo: heavy power chords, evil sounding vocals, hardcore drumming, and a tight arrangement make this a definite favorite of the metal groove scene. "High Maintenance Girl" comes off with a melodic upbeat ballad sound, but ends up leaving a generic feel. There is a lighter side to the band that is exhibited extremely well in "More Than a Man." This is led by a solid groove from the acoustic guitar and some tight vocal harmonies. "Silent Scream" has an offbeat originality that is extremely catchy. The final song on the album, "Wish," is a cover of the Nine Inch Nails from their Broken album. The song is close to the original with some nuances that only Trent Reznor could give the song. The Bee Zoo get credit for picking such a great cover, and to do it as well as they do is certainly reason to stand and applaud them.
