lyrical genius
by memooThe smart, quick wit of this poetic, lyrical and fun masterpiece is evident through a folk-alterna mix of sounds & rhythms. A little like Allison Krauss, but competes for it's own original style. Jodee's pure tones combine with depth of character to reveal a stunning cd that you won't want to miss out on. You should buy the whole album--every song speaks, and you can listen to them all over and over again. If you haven't checked out the Spares, you're missing out! They're great in concert too!
Great Album!
by ShowdaddyI picked this album up last summer. It's been a great friend ever since. It's definitely a slice of something special.
I wouldn't have classified this album as "country;" it's far more and far better. Jodee's got an amazing voice, and Steve's guitar work wraps up the sound wonderfully. They mesh together in a perfect blend of roots Americana. A few favorites are Allentown, Valley of Vision, I Don't Love You Anymore, and The Ballad of Columbus Bill. This is a great buy. See 'em live if you can!!!
Good Album; Better Live Though
by BMattsonThe album is good, but it doesn't do them justice. If you get a chance, go see them play live. They have such a great stage chemistry and her vocals are much better. The fact that she sounds better live is pretty rare so go see them. The steel guitar and mandolin are really great accents to the wonderful musicianship the spares bring to the table. A great duo with real talent.
