If you like Baxter, Olive, Sneaker Pimps...
by johnnycacheAlthough the lyrics tend to be a little less "urban" than some of these other female-led bands, Lucy Bland definitely shares a similar mood. Drum tracks layer behind a surprisingly wide variety of instruments - including guitar, violin, trombone, accordian, keyboards and several other little "sounds" I can't identify. Each song sounds like a vague memory tinged with a little regret. Pretty stuff good for a dimly lit cocktail lounge or living room.

by demerdeuseLucy Bland's First Recital is an impressive first effort for this little Seattle band. The singer's poetic lyrics are warmly balanced by cello and keyboards, but both guitars and beats keep these songs from falling into strictly indie/folk and push them onto the electronic stage. All of the songs evoke longing without wallowing in it - 'Centuries' and 'Far Away Places' are both quite upbeat in tempo and mood, while 'Streaker's lyrics speak of letting go. Hope they come out with another soon.
