the Swim Team's creative flexability is refreshing...
by gkbassJuice for Jesus is a great play on words, and the album itself is equally creative. Mixing fast and slow, hard and soft, the Swim Team have created a wonderful album. While I'm hard pressed to categorize the music, it definitely harkens back to the late 80's and early to mid 90's eclectic alternative stylings. Not angry youth rock or sappy pop rock, the Swim Team have managed to create songs that are earnest and true, not striving to fit a certain mold. Here are a few of the songs especially catch my ear and back up my theory: 'Earworm' has great vocals and such lovely, eerie feeling to it. The melancholy intro leads to a great build that really makes you want to hear more! 'Sappy Song II' is definitely one of my favorites! I like the deep and distorted guitar and the harsh punctuation of the drumming. 'Goodnight' has some great speed and rhythm changes that keep adding to the fullness of the song. My absolute favorite though, is 'Wedding Song.' Beautiful and haunting, it really speaks to love and friendship. The wonderful guitar and chorus kinda makes me a bit verklempt! All in all, this album takes many different routes to spread apart and then come back together to form a wondrously experimental, creative, and deep album. It makes you 'feel,' which is much more than most albums can say.
