This band had it...

The Wellcurbs are a local band from North Jersey that had the sound and songs to make it but for some reason never did. I used to go see the band in Hoboken all of the time, and there was about a four year period when they were just magic. The dynamic of the band live was really odd...five guys that seemed to have nothing in common playing music together. The build up to the live shows was electric, as it usually took Art (the singer) three or four songs before he could even face the crowd. The shows usually started out slowly and built into a burning fire, with Art becoming the songs, Billy (bassist) jumping around like he had
"Check your head" on his headphones, Rob staring at the floor or ceiling and whaling on the guitar, TK standing in the back taking it all in and Pete playing the drums like it might be his last time. Breath for Me was always a crowd favorite, with its long drum/bass/guitar intro and great vocal. Usually after BFM, they would glide into a Doors/U2 jam that was so pure and perfect, you knew you were witnessing something special. This album comes closer then the later albums (for me at least) in capturing that feeling. Directions, Remove, Reaching Still, Breath for Me and Tendency To Slip Away (maybe one of my all time favorite songs) are not to be missed...
