Another great record
by hatesbadmusic
This final (?) record from North Jersey's Wellcurbs is full of great songs. Unfortunatly, it was released at about the same time that the band decided to basically call it quits. The CD starts off with this montage of what sounds like "HAM" radio broadcasts, and fades nicely into "Salamander", a fantastic song to start the album. This record is by far their best in terms of production. It occasionally feels a bit too overproduced (* see "Inextenso, Streamline "), but overall has a great, full sound. This record has at least 3 singles (Thrill, Science, Custer & The City Alive) and does not really have a bad song on it. The instrumental "Float" is a stretch that seems to only be on the record so that it could have ten songs, but the rest of the songs are solid. Streamline is a great song with a great hook that the band used to play live (this version got shortened from the live version), and could be a single too if it were not for the loud breathing sounds between lines. InExtenso is another fantastic song, much heavier than their usual music that the band loves to play live. It loses some of that live luster on the album, but still stands as a highlight of the album. The last song, Custer & The City Alive, is a fantastic surprise that closed the album beautifully. This is another great album from a great band that will sadly not be heard by enough people...
