Cathy Jean's Little Sick Twist
by Old FolksterFirst off..its important to note that Little Sick Twist is a collection of songs, STRICTLY for mature audiences. Albums like this are the reason that Tipper Gore invented parental warning labels.
That said, let me state that Little Sick Twist is a GREAT ALBUM. Cathy Jean shows off her full range of musical styles, as well as a full range of emotions -and opinions on sex. She is a powerful singer who uses her voice to sell the emotion of the stories she sings.
IN Cathy Jeans world, sex can be fun and adventerous ("So Proud" "Deeper" "Brunettes" "Ripe Garden")as well as the source of disappointment and regret ("Happy Couple" "Sawin' " "No More Pecking")
Also here, is a genuinely creepy blues songs about warding off Demons ("SOmething Dark Approaching") a song of revenge on a errant boyfriend, ("The Judge")and a song that verbally assaults an obnoxious, overly flirtatious sister-in-law (Bitchovitch")
Above all, Cathy Jean is a great story teller, whose songs are the musical equivelant of a Chuck Pahlaniuk novel: funny, sexy, disturbing and poignant.
For those with adventurous tastes, I can't recommend this album enough.
