Album Review

A school teacher from Massachusetts, B.J. Snowden sings off-key and out of sync with her own drum machine backing, and offers stuff that's pretty personal, about her experiences living in Canada or her divorce. At her best, however, she sounds somewhere midway between Lene Lovich and Yoko Ono (much closer to the latter), and somehow she has attracted the attention of the B-52s' Fred Schneider, who introduced Snowden at her first New York show. Her first and, to date, only album, is very much an acquired taste, running the gamut from oddly attractive instrumentals (one with a vaguely folkish/calypso beat) to off-key homages to Canada and '50s pop parodies, but it may well appeal to anyone who enjoyed Yoko's Fly album.

BJ Snowden is the best artist since Harry Hatterfield (not many people know him but hes pretty amazing)I see many similarities in their music, both sing about canada and both have released one rap single. BJ Snowden should be nominated for the next grammy for indie pop music and i hope she becomes much more popular, the world could use a couple more bj snowdens!
