If I had a Nickel....

by Ryan Doolittle

If I had a Nickel for every time I wanted to hear this band play, I'd be a rich man and they'd be rich men. Tom McDermott's sweet raspy voice is outdone only by the delicious deliciousness of his tasty guitar licks. It's seriously like God tapped his vocal folds with cigarettes and candy. I love it. Tommy Hite makes children everywhere stand up and beg their collective mom for a piano. What a talent! I once saw a Mammoth offer him his ivory tusks. I don't know Bob Schmidt and Mike McLaughlin as well, but my guess is they've been rockin' worlds and breakin' hearts since the respective days they were born, respectively.

If you like "Squeeze" and it pissed you off when Sting went all jazzy on us, you'll love Nickel!

comeback for the one-hit-wonders :)

I, too, first heard of these guys courtesy of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer soundtrack featuring "Stupid Thing". It's hard to believe that almost ten years ago I sent them $5 in the mail to revieve a cassette tape of their only 8 songs and now they're on iTunes with some new music! I love the use of the organ in their songs, and I'm not gonna lie--there's just something about the lead singer's voice that makes me swoon! This is a good buy and a good pick-up for a rainy day.
