Album Review

The Toadies' debut album is a streamlined version of the Pixies' warped guitar rock and Nirvana's throttling grunge. It results in some good moments, particularly the single "Possum Kingdom."

Toadie Perfection

by Caleb Manasco

The most underrated album of the 90's. The Toadies should have been heraled as grunge Gods in the league of Soundgarden and yes even Nirvana. They are that good. The most consistant album I've ever heard- It is the only one where I have liked every single song. Their talent and innovation shines in every song from the lyricless Mexican Hairless to the acoustic I Burn. Buy this album even if you already have one to make up for the albums they never sold but most definately should have. IT'S PERFECT. Key tracks: 3, 4, 6, 7.

Fantastic Live!

After being a fan since Rubberneck came out some 15 years ago, I finally got to see The Toadies live in Boston this evening. Wow. Unbelievable. One of the best shows I have *ever* seen. It was in a club that was very spacious, yet quite intimate. Anyone could easily get right up near the stage. What really impressed me was how much they sounded *just* like on their albums. That's not always the case. Go see them if you get the chance. You will not be disappointed!

Why has no one reviewed this awesome album???!!!!

This may be the most underrated album of all time. I bought this album on tape when it came out and played it till I wore it out. I've never heard anyone talk about it although "Possum Kingdom" used to get some air play and everybody liked it. But you really need to hear the whole record. "Backslider", "Quitter", "I Burn" these are songs that let you know he is, (or at least was) pissed at the world and his girl. I can feel it. While most artists follow, these guys got something special, unique. It's angry music, no doubt, but like Nirvana or Pixies the anger is real and so is the humor. I hate poseurs. Get this if you like the samples. Get the album.
