iTunes Review

Even the most creatively restless of rock bands can't neglect their original muse, a lesson U2 ably learned and redressed on this 2000 album (and yet again on its even more successful cousin, How To Build An Atomic Bomb). After seeming to lose considerable focus in the '90s with such trendy, if occasionally rambling Bono-led reinventions as Zooropa and Pop, U2 reunited here with Eno and Daniel Lanois, the production team that had helped shape them into epochal legends in the '80s. The results are immediately heralded by the return of Edge's ringing guitar tones on the transcendent international hit "It's a Beautiful Day," yet the album is also expansive enough to incorporate the more recent rave textures of "Elevation" and gospel-tinged "Stuck in a Moment."

Extremely boring

by InstruDude.

U2 get worse and worse with each album they have made, after the epic 'Achtung Baby'. They always had at least one song I would buy. Now they have none on this pathetic lame recording. Seems like a trend-the more popular and wealthy a musician gets, the more boring and lame their music becomes. Other examples Paul McCartney, Phil Collins. My theory is that they have completely run out of inspiration. Give up and retire if this is all you can come up with. Even 'Vertigo' from U2's last release looks like a masterpiece compared to anything on this awful waste of time. Maybe it's ok for background music when you are vacuuming the carpets (make sure you have a loud vacuum cleaner), or elevator music.Should have been called 'A complete waste of time', but Monty Python coined that title, and they had some great songs on theirs.

Through a combination of zealous righteousness and post-punk experimentalism, U2 became one of the most popular rock & roll bands of the '80s. They were rock & roll crusaders during an era of synthesized pop and heavy metal, equally known for their sweeping sound as for their grandiose statements...
