Just wonderful
by Still LearningThis is the cast recording of a small and extremely well-received off-Broadway production with a stellar cast. It was, to say the least, a revelation, particularly for those who had seen only the lavish and creepy movie. This recording, like the production, relies merely on a piano and outstanding actors/singers to tell the tale, and to break your heart with music you probably already know, but never really heard until now.
Finian's Rainbow
by aggipahThis is a good album. But you should know that it is NOT the original cast recording--it is an off Broadway revival recording. Unlike the true Original cast recording (which is like from the late 40s or early 50s) or the 1960s film musical with Fred Astaire and Petula Clark, this recording has no orchestra. Just two pianos. So it is probably not the one to start with. But it is worth getting because it has more of the original music and songs that were not included on the earlier cast albums because of length restrictions in the pre CD era. So this is a way to hear the entire score that you won't hear on the original film and broadway cast albums. And sometimes having the accompaniment stripped down to just pianos, you hear a lot of things that you miss with the orchestra. I enjoyed it a lot.
Old Time
by laboheme94This isn't for the modern loving Broadway types (you know, Rent, Wicked, Avenue Q....although I am among those people myself) this is better suited for the Annie Get Your Gun, West Side Story, Me and My Girl Fans (again, also me). The stage production is amazing and the music is pretty good. Some of the songs can really get you dancing around, while others are slower and touching.
