iTunes Review

Just two years after the group was playing simple three-chord punk rock, the Clash created one of the greatest rock albums of all time — the complex, diverse, and musically omnivorous London Calling. On this near-perfect 1979 album, Mick Jones, Joe Strummer, Paul Simonon, and Topper Headon were at their creative peak. Taking their cues from pop ("Lost in the Supermarket"), dub ("Rudie Can't Fail," "The Guns of Brixton"), and everything else they could get their ears around, the quartet creates punk-rock magic. There's still an edge to the title track, "Death or Glory," and "Clampdown," but the real fun happens when the group breaks new ground and melds genres, as on "I'm Not Down," "Spanish Bombs," and the massive hit "Train in Vain."

The Greatest Album of All Time

Simply brilliant. This IS music. From the opening power chords and thundering bass riff of "London Calling" to the irresistable "Train In Vain", this album is perfect. Buy it.

An absolute classic

How ahead of its time was this album? Why hasn't there been anything even remotely close to come out since? This simply album is beyond description or comparison. That's all there is to it.

Perfect

When I bought this album I was depressed. This album pulled me out of it. I listened to it a hundred times. I mean I just played it over and over and over again when I bought it. It restored color to my life and just made me happy. It's simply amazing and perfectly constructed. The older I get the more I appreciate what it does new and right. Get it and you will be satisfied. Even if you hate the Clash you will enjoy this album.

The Sex Pistols may have been the first British punk rock band, but the Clash were the definitive British punk rockers. Where the Pistols were nihilistic, the Clash were fiery and idealistic, charged with righteousness and a leftist political ideology. From the outset, the band was more musically adventurous,...
