Album Review
Very Best of the Specials and Fun Boy Three will no doubt lure more than a few unsuspecting listeners with its classic checkered jacket and instantly recognizable playlist, but a closer look at the cover will provide listeners with an important clue as to the collection's content. This "unofficial" greatest-hits collection which "features Neville Staples" is filled with re-recordings. Staples, a member of both the Specials and Fun Boy Three, is the sole connection to the tunes and provides his own interpretations.

EEGHADS!!! Terrible. A criminal ripoff
by sadladThe title should give you confidence, but beware my friend, this listing would seperate you from your money. This is not only not the Specials, but it isn't even the Fun Boy Three. Re-Recordings by some other guy.
Jerry Dammers wanted to free Nelson Mandela, but I think he should look into hiring a real lawyer, and freeing himself from these ripoffs. They pollute the Specials legacy.
Neville Staple and the Hit Men, not Fun Boy Three, and certainly not the Specials
by DEWadictLuckily my friend had made the mistake of buying this CD a few years back, because I know I would have jumped at a chance like this. I mean, the best of both the golden era Specials (first two albums) AND Fun Boy Three?! That would be excellent! But alas, it is merely just Neville Staple using his new band (what is advertised as the Hit Men on the last page of the CD's insert) to rerecord the classics. Though, it does look legit, since it's first track, "Our Lips Are Sealed," does feature Jane Wiedlin of the Go-Go's (who dated Specials and Fun Boy Three frontman Terry Hall, with whom she co-wrote the song, and used as the Go-Go's first single). The only real appeal of this album is its somewhat of a collectable, I mean, if you're obsessed with Neville Staple, The Specials, or Fun Boy Three and are willing to drop some cash, go ahead, but don't go into this album expecting the chilling, almost unhumanly droning voice of Terry Hall or the energy of the rest of the crew.
Just.
