I have been searching for the right quality, sound, passion, and interpretation for so long. I was debating between a classic conductor in Karajan, but I found it was too stiff and the motif seemed rushed. Bernstein captures the unique sense of the fanastic for which Berlioz sought; now add to that a high quality recording and you have a brilliant interpretation. I am quite pleased with this purchase. Bernstein's commentary is fun, but unnecessary. I would have wished there were other small Berlioz morsals added to this record, but a pure dedicated Symphonie Fantasique is appreciated too.
