iTunes Review

With help from the weird dog on the cover and (more importantly) the production duo the Dust Brothers, Beck created his most successful, fun, and lively album to date with 1996's Odelay. Here the disparate elements that fuel Beck's music--blues, Latin jazz, folk, funk, and rap--collide with glorious results. Instead of the lo-fi quirks found on Mellow Gold you get a fuller sound that can't help but force you to turn up the stereo. "Devil's Haircut" and "The New Pollution" channel fierce hip-hop energy into what are essentially party songs. Album closer "Ramshackle" is anything but' it's one of Beck's finest stabs at a traditional folk song, complete with retro-sitar touches.

this album is horrible! - there are a few moments where I think - ooh, maybe I like this song, then Beck goes into some high pitched distorted feedback white noise that makes me want to toss my speakers out the window! - OUCH!!!

Whenever I listen to Odelay the first thing I think of is the Futurama episode Bendin' in the Wind. Me being a big fan of Beck and Futurama that episode is one of my favorites. But back to Odelay, one song that I really like that alot of people don't talk about is Hotwax. It has an awesome beat, funky lyrics, cool synths, and maybe I just like it because it's sort of weird. So get Odelay if you like weird stuff, cause this is awesome.
